The Japanese sewing technique sashiko is based on simple stitches that have traditionally been used to mend clothes and textiles in more or less advanced patterns. During the workshop you will learn different stitches and techniques for making or creating free embroidered works.

The workshop is led by Takao Momiyama who is an artist and designer born in Japan and lives in Simrishamn. Since his graduation at Konstfack, he has worked with textile materials and techniques. The focus has shifted from textile printing and products to freer work. More than ten years ago, he began working on the Japanese sewing technique sashiko. Recycling and the slow sewing process are related to the technique. Working together and spreading knowledge is important to Takao Momiyama. He is also up to date with the book Mend with sashiko which he has done together with writers Kerstin Neumüller.

Cost: 750 kr (650 kr for Vandalorum Friends). Materials and coffee are included. Please bring any item of clothing that you would like to cook. Please indicate any allergies or special dietary requirements when registering.

In connection with the visit Momiyama will be signing his new book 'Mend with Sashiko' in the entrance building at 11.30.
