Edholm is one of Sweden’s most prominent contemporary artists, recognized for her graphically distinctive visual language. This exhibition presents paintings, sketches, and collages from the series Tounge on the Tip. Each painting leads to the next, forming a sequence of works created over eight years (2003–11). They share vibrant colours, optical effects, and an engaging play of foreground and background. When exhibited, their arrangement is adapted to the space and the rhythm it demands.
Edholm’s works encompass not only abstraction but also narrative, and her titles hold significant meaning. In 2013, her acclaimed artwork Dialogos was inaugurated at the UN Headquarters in New York City—a monumental curtain with interlocking white and orange wedges symbolizing the UN’s mission of dialogue and consensus. In this exhibition, the journey from one artwork to another creates the narrative. Drawing on references to the medieval legend of the fourteen stations along Jesus’ path to Golgotha, Edholm depicts her own life journey.
Ann Edholm (b. 1953, works in Lid, Nyköping) was educated at Royal Institute of Art, Gerlesborg School of Fine Art and Konstfack. Edholm has previously worked as a professor of painting at Royal Institute of Art, Valand Academy of Art and Design and Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and is a member of Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. She was awarded the Prins Eugen Medal in 2016, and her works are in the collections of Nationalmuseum, Moderna Museet, Swedish Arts Council, Gothenburg Art Museum, EMMA in Finland, and EPO Art Collection in Germany.
