The exhibition Building Blocks presents three pioneering Nordic furniture designers from different generations: Danish Ditte Hammerstrøm, Icelandic Sigurður Gústafsson and Bruno Mathsson from Värnamo. The designers, whose works are being exhibited jointly for the first time, have all explored and challenged the relationships between design, architecture and art with great success.

Hammerstrøm and Gústafsson move unhindered today in the borderland between sculpture and furniture design. Mathsson — one of Sweden's most internationally renowned designers of all time — is presented from a new perspective, namely through his painting that is unknown to many.

The three designers have different design languages, but also a clear common denominator in their furniture art: nature. Mathsson was inspired by the forms of nature. Hammerstrøm includes our psyche in the remaking power of nature. Gústafsson is influenced by the transforming forces of nature.
