The exhibition of the innovative cabinetmaker and designer Gustav Person consists in half of a monumental building set for visitors. This almost inexhaustible construction of wood is joined together by ordinary office rubber bands.
The exhibition revolves around joints. The starting point is Gustav Person's acclaimed and award-winning master's thesis from Konstfack: a dedicated investigation of how wood can be joined together without the use of glue, nails or screws. The exhibition displays 26 joints, many of which are recognizable from everyday life, such as hinges, rubber bands and bow, but also furniture carpentry classics. Each joint is presented clearly and given a text that — with a certain amount of humor — describes both its qualities and shortcomings.
The exhibition displays several of Person's furniture constructed with these joints: a desk, a stool, a bench, a lamp, a clothes bar and a bookcase. Each joint has also generated an ingenious poem.
Gustav Person (b. 1983) master's degree in interior architecture and furniture design at Konstfack in 2013. Person has participated in exhibitions at Artipelag, Rian Design Museum and Stockholm Furniture Fair, among others. He has received several awards, including Artipelag design award Newcomer (2013), Newcomer of the Year in Residence Magazine (2014) and Furniture of the Year in Sköna hem (2014).
