The global production map is being redrawn. This exhibition is a contribution to the debate on how local production can be part of a long-term sustainable social development. That the products of the future, like the food we eat, can be made more locally, pass fewer hands, be more small-scale and more pleasing to everyone involved.
In order to highlight the local manufacturing potential, industrial designer and curator Jenny Nordberg started the project The New Map, one year ago. She wanted to show that it is quite possible to produce in Sweden, at fantastic manufacturers. This is at a time when ethical values as well as digitalisation and globalisation provide new conditions for production and consumption.
Together with Form/Design Center in Malmö, Jenny Nordberg created 24 collaborations between designers and manufacturers in Skåne, one year ago. Nordberg and Vandalorum have now paired another 15 designers with 15 manufacturers, all from Småland. Each pair has been tasked with jointly developing one or more new products. Together they show a selection of everything that is possible to make in this landscape!
Even the exhibition architecture is local. The podium sides are soaked in various “marinades” of ingredients typical of the place: lime, rapeseed, red cabbage, algae and blue raspberries in Skåne, as well as spruce, granite, juniper, lingonberries and polkagris in Småland.
