The picture shows the exhibition Excerpts.

This exhibition is a deep dive into the significant collection of contemporary art built up by the Tore G Wärenstam Foundation. Since its first purchase in 2002, the collection has grown rapidly and today contains works by some 40 artists. All of them are connected with the Sjuhärad region where Wärenstam was active, a region where art life thrives today. The exhibition includes works by 16 of the artists — several of them also internationally established.

The collection is constantly growing, and the Wärenstam Foundation strives to regularly supplement with new works by the artists already included. Young artists are also supported through scholarships. The collection is now mainly deposited with the Borås Art Museum.

Tore G Wärenstam (1908-80) was born in Kärda, outside Värnamo, as the fifth child of a poor farming family. His career in the newspaper world began in Värnamo, where at the age of 22 he became editorial secretary for the newly founded Värnamo Nyheter. In 1937 he moved to Borås where he later became editor-in-chief, director and owner of Borås Tidning, but also chairman of the city council and county council. The foundation of the foundation was laid by Wärenstam on the occasion of her 60th birthday. Today, the foundation is the full owner of Borås Tidning, which in turn is half owner of Gota Media.
