The project involves about 60 students from bachelor's and master's degree programs in design and interior architecture at Konstfack in Stockholm, the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg and Linnaeus University in Växjö. The 12 industries participating are all based in the Gnosjö region: DS Smith Packaging, Gafs Kartong, Garo, HordaGruppen, Horda Stans, Källemo, Mikroponent, Proton Lighting, Stolab, Strömlundds Snickeri, Swedese and Värnamo Sängkläder.
The aim of the collaboration is that the participating industries together with the students will be given the opportunity to analyze industrial waste and find new ways to value and use it. The students' task has been to explore sustainability and the circular economy and, together with the industry in question, develop ideas for material or product production based on the waste generated by the specific industry.
The background to the project is that Lendager Group (leading architectural firm, material developer and strategists in circular resource use and reuse) is currently exhibiting an extensive exhibition at Vandalorum, Wasteland — from waste to architecture, about how waste is our biggest untapped resource.
The project and the exhibition are supported by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency/Klimatklivet and Region Jönköping County.
